The event commenced with a warm welcome from Nobab Uddin, Chair of EastHands Charity, and Imam Syed Abu Ansary, representing the Isleworth Deen Centre. Both speakers emphasised the critical importance of community engagement in environmental issues.
This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between awareness and action, ensuring that communities are not only informed but are actively participating in sustainable practices. The Green Initiative aligns with EastHands’ mission of empowering disadvantaged communities through education, training, and sustainable projects.
As part of the session, participants were introduced to practical ways they could reduce their carbon footprint at home and in their neighbourhoods. This included discussions on energy conservation, waste management, and the benefits of green transportation.
A hands-on demonstration followed, where attendees participated in planting activities and were given access to a local food-growing kit to take home. Children in attendance also engaged in drawing and creative workshops to express what a greener planet means to them.
Nobab Uddin remarked, “This Green Initiative is not just an event — it’s a movement. We are investing in the future of our planet and the health of our communities.”
EastHands Charity reiterated its commitment to furthering these causes by announcing upcoming workshops and collaborations with local councils and schools to integrate sustainability into daily community life.
The success of the Green Initiative workshop is a testament to what can be achieved when communities, charities, and leaders come together with a shared vision. With continued support, EastHands hopes to scale the programme across other boroughs in London and beyond.
